An inspiring setting for artists and craftspeople

The unique natural light and beauty of Formentera have been a source of inspiration for artists, craftsmen and designers.

Since the 1960s, people from all over the world have come to Formentera to set up their creative workshops, creating a cosmopolitan social fabric that is extremely prolific in craftsmanship, art and design. Local artists have three halls in which to exhibit their work, of which the Sala d’Exposicions Ajuntament Vell is the most important.

With more than 10 years of steady uninterrupted programming, the Sala d’Exposicions Ajuntament Vell, in the Plaza de la Constitución in Sant Francesc Xavier, is a space intended to house exhibitions by artists, groups and cultural associations, both local and from outside the island. It is managed by the Culture and Heritage Department. The hall offers a programme of temporary exhibitions throughout the year. Exhibitions usually open on Mondays at 8 pm. Admission is free.

The Centro Antoni Tur “Gabrielet” is a space for exhibitions and workshops related to local crafts. In addition, one of its wings houses the market for the sale of food produced on the island. Open from Monday to Saturday. More details here.

La Mola Lighthouse. Since 2019, the lighthouse hosts a cultural and dissemination space for the maritime heritage of Formentera, an exhibition area, a multipurpose space for concerts, conferences and small format plays.
The summer opening hours are Tuesday to Sunday from 10 am to 2 pm and Wednesdays and Sundays from 5 pm to 9 pm. Mondays closed. From 15th October are Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Monday and holidays: closed. General admission price is 4.5 €. Free admission for residents, children until 18 years old and unemployed people. Retired and students will pay a reduced price of € 2.5.

The Formentera Ethnographic Collection is located at Carrer Jaume I, 15 (first floor). It consists of a permanent exhibition of tools, utensils, furniture, clothing and instruments that amply illustrate what life on the island was like until the mid-20th century.
