The Island

Climate and geography

The climate of Formentera is characterised by dry summers, mild winters and low rainfall. In addition, the small size of Formentera and its low relief mean that the climate varies very little from place to place.

Formentera has a unique and enchanting geography, with a surface area of 83.2 km2 and a coastline of 69 km. The maximum altitude is 192 metres above sea level at Sa Talaïassa, a point located on the Mola plateau.

Its mild climate gives rise to a Mediterranean vegetation that combines sand dunes with forests of pine and juniper, conifers that give the island its personality.
