Experience the 2026 solar eclipse at Es Cap de Barbaria
On 12 August 2026, Formentera will become the setting for one of the most eagerly anticipated astronomical events of recent years: a total solar eclipse visible during the final hours of the afternoon.
To allow residents and visitors to experience this remarkable moment safely, in an organised manner and with full respect for the natural environment, the Consell Insular de Formentera, in collaboration with the Associació Astronòmica de Formentera, is organising a special observation event at Es Cap de Barbaria, one of the island’s most iconic landscapes.
An experience under the stars
The event will feature four professional telescopes and several screens, allowing participants to follow the eclipse and learn more about this extraordinary astronomical phenomenon.
Once the eclipse has ended, the evening will continue with a meteor shower observation activity, which is expected to last until approximately 11:00 pm.
All participants will receive a commemorative pack containing:
- A drawstring backpack.
- A hand fan.
- Certified solar-viewing glasses.
Drinking water will also be provided to attendees during the event.
Access exclusively by bus
To protect the natural environment, ensure safe mobility and prevent overcrowding, private vehicles will not be permitted to access the observation area.
Transport to Es Cap de Barbaria will be provided by a special shuttle bus service, with departures scheduled at:
5:45 pm, 6:00 pm, 6:30 pm and 6:50 pm.
The buses will depart from a temporary stop located on the Sant Francesc ring road.
The admission price includes:
- Return transport on the shuttle bus.
- Travel on regular public transport services to reach the shuttle departure point.
For the event, the regular public bus service will be reinforced with additional routes.
Prices
- General admission: €9.
- Reduced admission: €4.50 for people aged over 65 and young people aged between 7 and 18.
- Children aged 6 and under: free admission, although advance booking is required.
