How to get there
Formentera is a real island, as it does not have an airport and is only accessible by sea. This makes getting there a bit more difficult and expensive. However, Formentera's virtues – wonderful state of preservation, tranquillity, etc. – are largely due to this isolation.
Arrival in Formentera is via the island of Ibiza, which is easily reached by air or by sea from various peninsular ports: Valencia, Denia and Barcelona. During high season Baleària boat company links the harbour of Dènia and the one of Formentera without passing through the island of Ibiza.
Once in Ibiza, there are various companies running boats to reach the port of La Savina – the only route in and out of the island – and covering the route every day of the week, with different frequency depending on the time of year.
It takes 25 minutes to sail between the port of Ibiza and La Savina, past the many islets situated between both islands: Espalmador, Penjats, Malvins, Porcs...
